From the Editor - Colin Evans

Hi Everyone

Welcome to this edition of Cols-A-To-Z.

I've had a frustrating week and right now I feel like throwing my toys out...

What is it about the supposed "gurus" that makes them scared to death (or is it too plain lazy) to answer a "please help me" e-mail?

I have sent numerous 'please help me" e-mails to many online marketing and success "gurus". Only two have ever answered.

The first was Jim Edwards of http://www.turnwordsintotraffic.com

The second was Chris Widener of http://www.madeforsuccess.com

And he answered in seconds!

Maybe that's why I feature a lot of their articles, I trust them.

So what is going on with the rest of our industry experts (the "gurus")?

Is the content of their books and e-books a lie then?

Are we all following the pied piper (or pied pipers)?

Or is it just me over reacting?

At the moment I can't answer these questions, but in time I'm going to...

Did It Work For Me? by Colin Evans

Rotators...

Nearly every successful online marketer uses or has used a rotator.

How do they work?

A rotator is a script which allows you to rotate different web pages through the same URL.

In other words if I have five different web site URL's entered into my Ebiz rotator, every time my rotator URL, http://www.ebizrotator.com/goto/CE9999.htm is displayed in a browser, a different web page will be viewed.

After the fifth webpage is displayed the rotator will go back to the first URL.

A record is made each time one of the pages in a rotator is displayed and in some rotators you can set the number of times a page is to be displayed.

By the way, if you think I've just given one of my online opportunities a shameless plug, you're absolutely correct

Do they work?

Absolutely.

The big advantage of using a rotator is that you only have to promote one URL instead of many.

And I have a few tips that I will share with you:

  1. Concentrate your efforts on a few opportunities. The more opportunities you place into your rotator the more you dilute your advertising efforts.
  2. Some rotators have frames which contain details of the rotator - these could distract your potential customer.
  3. If you are using a rotator with frames so as to pomote your rotator as well, rather place the referral URL for your rotator into your frameless rotator.
  4. If you are a Pro member of Ebiz rotator, your Pro Rotator is shown as a pop-under every time your Coop rotator is displayed. Take advantage of this by placing your opportunity referral URL's into the Pro rotator and your lead capture URL's in your Coop rotator.

Go to http://www.ebizrotator.com/coop/CE9999.htm for an example of what I'm talking about.

    Or...

  5. As a Pro member of Ebiz rotator you can put your downline's referral URL's into your Coop rotator and your own referral URL's into your Pro rotator which will be displayed as pop-unders.
  6. Some advertising programs will not allow you to use rotators. To get around this you could use a frameless rotator and put the rotator URL into a re-direct page.

Go to http://www.cols-a-to-z.com/focus.html for an example of what I'm talking about.

When you submit your page URL to the advertising program, set your rotator so it only displays the first URL. When your URL is checked, the same web page will be displayed every time. Once your page has been accepted, reset your rotator to show all the pages as before.

Just make sure that non of your pages in your rotator are frame breakers and no one will ever know...

Featured Article: It is a Challenge to Succeed - by Jim Rohn

It is a challenge to succeed. If it were not, I’m sure more people would be successful, but for every person who is enjoying the fruit from the tree of success, many more are examining the roots.

They are trying to figure it all out. They are mystified and perplexed by what seems to be some strange, complex and elusive secret that must be found if ever success is to be enjoyed.

While most people spend most of their lives struggling to earn a living, a much smaller number seem to have everything going their way. Instead of just earning a living, the smaller group is busily engaged in designing and enjoying a fortune. Everything just seems to work out for them. While the much larger group sits in awe at how life can be so unfair, complicated and unjust.

“I am a nice person,” the man says to himself. “How come this other guy is happy and prosperous, and I’m always struggling?” He asks himself, “I am a good husband, a good father and a good worker. How come nothing seems to work out for me? Life just isn’t fair. I’m even smarter and willing to work harder than some of these other people who just seem to have everything going their way,” he says as he slumps into the sofa to watch another evening of television.

But you see you’ve got to be more than a good person and a good worker. You’ve got to become a good planner, and a good dreamer. You’ve got to see the future finished in advance. You’ve got to put in the long hours and put up with the setbacks and the disappointments. You’ve got to learn to enjoy the process of disciplines and of putting yourself through the paces of doing the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable. You’ve got to be prepared and willing to attack the challenges if you want the success because challenges are part of success. Now that may sound like a full menu of activities, but let me assure you that the process of going from average to fortune isn’t really all that difficult. Thinking about it is the difficult part. Anticipating all the effort and the changes and the disciplines is far worse in the mind than in reality. I can promise you that the challenges you’ll meet on the road to success are far less difficult to deal with than the struggles and the disappointments that come from being average.

Confronting and overcoming challenges is an exhilarating experience. It does something to feed the soul and the mind. It makes you more than you were before. It strengthens the mental muscles and enables you to become better prepared for the next challenge.

I've often said that to have more, we must first become more, and to become more, we must begin the process of working harder on ourselves than we do on anything else. But in addition to gathering new knowledge, new skills and new experiences; it is also important to discover new emotions. It is how we feel about what we know that makes the biggest difference in how our lives turn out. How we feel about the chances we have and the choices we have determines the intensity of our effort. Whether we try or don’t try. Join or don’t join. Believe or don’t believe.

I’d like for you to discover some strong feelings about your life and about what you want to do with that life. You probably have much of the knowledge and a lot of the experience and perhaps most of the skills that it takes to become successful. What you may be lacking in are the strong feelings about what you want and what you want to do. You may be one of those who have become so involved in the process of earning a living that you’ve forgotten about the choices and the chances you have for designing your own life.

Let these strong feelings help you take a second look at your life and where you’re headed. After all, you’ve only got one life, at least on this planet. So why not make it an adventure in achievement? Why not discover what all you can do and what all you can have? Why not discover how many others you can help and in the process how that can help you?

Why not now take the Challenge to Succeed!

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

Featured Article: I'm Guilty Until Proven Innocent - by Jim Edwards

No doubt about it.

"Spam" (unsolicited commercial email) threatens to paralyze and ultimately destroy the email system as it currently exists on the Internet.

Anyone with an email address can attest to the fact that the avalanche of Spam has only increased in the last year and shows no sign of stopping.

However, the current system many Internet Service Providers (ISP's) use to deal with Spam may just destroy the Internet's email system long before the Spammers do.

Now, I won't deny that the weight of the Spam on any ISP's resources can rate very significant.

It's been estimated that between 30-60% of all email now sent is Spam!

This means that 30-60% an ISP's system resources (bandwidth, hardware, system maintenance) go towards delivering messages nobody wants to receive.

Out of self-defense, many ISP's turn to third party services like SpamCop, SPEWS (Spam Prevention Early Warning System), and SpamHaus to help them identify sources of Spam and block the messages before their email systems get clogged.

No Trial - No Defense - Guilty!

In theory, it's a great system.

In practice, it creates a situation resembling a witch hunt where the accused gets burned at the stake without a trial, let alone the ability to face their accuser. Here's how the system works.

Let's say a business habitually sends legitimate email to its customers or prospects who asked to receive the email.

As long as nobody complains, life proceeds as normal.

But then let's say one of those people forgets they opted in to the business's email list and reports an email message as Spam to one of the services I mentioned above.

Result: the business gets blacklisted by one or more of these services and ISP's in turn automatically block email (legitimate email) sent by the business to its customers and opt-in subscribers.

To make matters even worse, nobody at these anti-Spam services bothers to let the business know they've been blacklisted.

When the business finally discovers their status and tries to contact SpamCop, SPEWS or SpamHaus, the real fun begins.

If the business does discover which service(s) blacklisted them, they'll find they can't call anyone on the phone to discuss the problem.

They also discover these services are totally unregulated and there is no higher court of appeals.

Any email responses from these services often contain a smug attitude of assumed guilt that scoffs at your claims of innocence.

Also, don't bother asking for the opportunity to face your accuser in order to prove your innocence because they get to hide behind a cloak of anonymity.

Combining this attitude of assumed guilt with the inability to prove your innocence creates a recipe for disaster for every legitimate business.

Oh, by the way, while writing this article, I received 19 Spam email messages through an ISP monitored by all 3 anti-Spam services.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

In the end, the current system only creates opportunity for abuse that targets legitimate businesses while the real Spammers just merrily keep sending their flood of email.

Motivational Quotes

Experience shows that success is due less to ability than to zeal. The winner is he who gives himself to his work, body and soul.

- Charles Buxton

Talent alone won't make you a success. Neither will being in the right place at the right time, unless you are ready. The most important question is: "Are you ready?"

- Johnny Carson

Take A Break: Jesus is watching you

A burglar broke into a house one night.

He shone his torch around, looking for valuables, and when he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, "Jesus is watching you."

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight out, and froze.

When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, and clicked his torch back on and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is watching you."

He shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice.

Finally, in the corner of the room, his torch beam came to rest on a parrot.

"Did you say that?" He hissed at the parrot. "Yes," the parrot confessed, "I'm just trying to warn you."

The burglar relaxed. "Warn me? Who in the world are you?"

"Moses," replied the bird.

"Moses?" the burglar laughed. "What kind of people would name a bird Moses."

"The kind of people that would name a rottweiler Jesus."
